No advice from the experts, no legal jargon, no statistics... just my opinion, honest and sincere. The conversation is as old as the institution of marriage itself and the trials and tribulations of separation and divorce, but one aspect still remains unresolved. When two people no longer get along, and a decision must be made about how to move forward, where do the children fit in? Should their welfare be top priority regardless of the effect on the parents?
When parents call it quits, who's going to be the umbrella for the kids and protect them from the stormy weather?

Today is the day. I've waited for it with a little bit of trepidation. But it's here.
I've been insanely comfortable for the last couple of years (after the initial shock wore off and with the firm and helping hand of a very good friend, of course) - or at least the last 18 months that I knew about it. Even though I knew it wasn't going to be a permanent situation, it at least gave me some breathing room.
Knowing that he wasn't going to try to pop back into our lives.
Today is the day my ex-husband gets out of prison.

I never thought I'd be able to relate to some of the frustrations of the child-free community.
I've heard from more than one of them that they get irritated at being asked about when they're having kids. It seemed to me that a simple 'I'm not' would answer the question and end the conversation. After all, how hard is it to say that?
At least today I understand a little bit more about how it feels being asked the same question repeatedly, because it's been happening to me. Not about having kids though.
"Are you married?"
I heard it three times before noon the other day.
