Peanut Butter Recall

 Peanut Butter has been recalled again.  Remember last time a year or so ago it was Peter Pan Peanut Butter recalled?  This time it is Peanut Butter again, but at first we were told it was just one supplier and they supplied large institutions such as hospitals, schools, or restaurants.  As a mother with a school age child this bothered me a little bit, until I checked with my daughters school and was told that they did not use the peanut butter in question.  Whew! Or so I thought.  Now I read that Kellogg's and other companies are recalling their peanut butter cracker products.  So in an effort to educate myself as to what products are really affected I went to the FDA website and found this list of Peanut Products affected.  

There are alot more products affected than we have been publicly told, there are also pet products involved.  Kind of makes you wonder exactly how good the quality control in our food stream is?  There have been far too many salmonella out breaks as well as other issues with our food lately.

China, China, China

China has gotten a deservedly bad rep in the last year or so.  First we had the lead paint on almost every toy imported from China.  Then the tainted Pet Food when the suspected tainted ingredients were traced back to China.  Now baby formula. 

This is very distressing, especially the recalls involving children.  China is a huge country.  They are a large producer of world goods.  One would think that they would have more controls in place, their very economy could depend on it.  Especially with the state of the world economy you would think that China would be more careful.  Let's face it, with the way the economy is going right now, the United States as well as other countries are looking to get as much as possible for as cheap as possible.  I just wonder if we are putting ourselves and our children in more danger as a result of trying to save a buck.

Who is monitoring China?  Even with our demanded controls and requirements, how can we be sure that what comes in from China is indeed safe?  It almost feels like playing Russian roulette, doesn't it?

Car Seat Recalls, Shockingly There Are Many

Just because we have not heard of any recalls recently must mean that all is well, right?  Wrong!   I was browsing recalls this morning and was shocked to see not only a tremendous number of car seats with some sort of a recall, but also other child related items.  There is children's jewelry and lip gloss sets recalled because of what else LEAD EXPOSURE.  There is a children's toy box that has been recalled due to a latch allowing the lid to come down to quickly causing the strangulation death of a 22 month old, etc.

The moral of this story is that there seems to be so many recalls that we are not hearing about all of them, or the shock factor is gone and we just tune out if it is reported on the news, always check for yourself.  You can check cpsc.gov or recalls.gov to see all recalls for yourself in almost every category that you can think of.
